Chances are, at least one student in each course you teach will need some accommodation through Student Accessibility Services. To make implementation of these accommodations easy, please:
In a private setting, discuss accommodations with your student, and how those accommodations will be implemented in your course. Note that a student may choose not to use some or all of their approved accommodations in your course, or may choose to use accommodations sporadically; this is OK, it is the student's choice. If your student chooses not to meet with you, respect their choice; if you need additional assistance in implementing an accommodation please contact Student Accessibility Services.
Ask what learning challenges (not their disability) a student is facing and what has been helpful in the past.
Consult with Student Accessibility Services when you feel an accommodation would limit or undermine the intended learning outcomes of your course.
Keep all information confidential in accordance with federal laws: FERPA, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and Sections 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act.
Advise any Co-Instructors/Teaching Assistants/Graduate Assistants about necessary accommodations in class, recitation, lab, or other class setting where the accommodation will be applied.
